Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
How do I submit my service hours? Submit your service hours using this new SJV Volunteer Portal. Watch this tutorial video to explain how submitting service hours on the new Volunteer Portal works. There are 3 ways to submit your hours:
- Submit service hours for opportunities with scheduled shifts.
- Submit service hours for opportunities with flexible hours.
- Submit service hours not attached to opportunities.
Why can't I enter the Volunteer Portal? You must complete the Service Hours Agreement to access the Volunteer Portal. This requirement is renewable annually on August 1st for each new school year.
Why can't I sign up for opportunities? All parent volunteers are required to meet the 3 qualifications to sign up for volunteering opportunities. All volunteers must be cleared by completing 3 requirements:
- Complete fingerprinting
- Signing the Adult Waiver Form, and
- VIRTUS Safe Environment Certification of completion
You cannot sign up for a volunteering opportunity until you have completed all 3 qualifications listed above. Please contact Kelly Johnson (kjohnson@sjvsj.org) if you have questions about the requirements.
What is an Opportunity? An opportunity is a volunteering task that requires a volunteer to carry out, whether it's setting up tables for an event or giving tours at an Open House event.
What is a Program? We have organized volunteering opportunities within 6 distinct sections: On-Campus, Off-Campus/After Hours, Athletics, Parish, In-Kind Donations, and Alumni. Within each of these sections, you will find listings of opportunities to sign up to volunteer.
Why can't I sign up my spouse for the same volunteering opportunity? Every user needs a unique email address in the Volunteer Portal to sign up for volunteering opportunities. This process helps keep track of the number of hours contributed to each household. For households that only have one email on record, we assigned the email to the primary contact of the household.
My spouse/partner doesn't have an email account. Can I sign him/her up under my name to volunteer? No, every member of a household needs a unique email address that's currently not being used in the Volunteer Portal to sign up for volunteering opportunities. To maintain safety within our school community and be in compliance with volunteer policies from the Diocese of San Jose, each volunteer must have their own user account and have been cleared for volunteering.

Please send a request to servicehours@sjvsj.org to add a spouse to your family's household account in the Volunteer Portal. Note: Your spouse MUST meet all 3 volunteering qualifications before being added to your household account.
